SHOUJOS

  • Hey everyone! Today we’re going to talk about shoujos (shojos) manga and anime, I hope you enjoy it :)

The term
shojo or shoujo manga refers to manga or anime marketed to a female audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18. It emphasizes being placed on personal relationships rather than world-shaking battles or politics.

The word shojo in Japanese means literally little girl.

There are many kinds of shoujo but the 2 main are :
Shoujos that  focus on romance and high school life
  • This type of shoujo usually is more realistic (not much though) , has a lot a romance and the protagonist is usually female, shows the teenage perspective of being in love, or the daily life of high school students . Here are some examples:

Special A

 Lovely Complex

 Fruits Basket

Toradora

 Hiyokoi

 Koukou Debut

 K-ON

Mahou shoujos
  • Mahou in Japanese means magic, and shojo, girls, so this type of shoujo shows girls with magical powers in a fantastic world. It’s usually made for younger girls and the anime usually shows a lot of color. Here are some examples:

Sakura Card Captors

 Mew Mew Tokyo

Mermaid Melody

Shugo Chara
Sailor Moon

Fushigi Boshi no Futago Hime
